Wolfsburg edition skates the gap between the base and mid-range Passat

It seems more than a little odd to me to create a special edition of the vehicle with the goal of being cheap. That is exactly what Volkswagen has done with the announcement of a new trim level for the Passat that is coming in the middle of 2013. The car is the Volkswagen Passat Wolfsburg edition .

The base price for the car will be $23,495. Volkswagen says that it will slot in its line between the base S model and the mid-level SE trim. The Wolfsburg edition will get several convenience features added to the base model at competitive price. The car will use a six-speed automatic transmission.

It will also feature Bluetooth technology, a multifunction steering wheel with audio and phone controls, automatic headlights, power exterior mirrors, and driver seat lumbar support. The Wolfsburg edition will also get distinctive 16-inch wheels, perforated V-Tex leatherette seating, power heated driver seat, satellite radio, and more.

Motor Mouth: Why a VW-Fiat merger would be a chaotic disaster

Jul 25 2014 5:00am CDT | Source: Driving Canada

Ferdinand Piech, supervisory board chair
The future success of the rumoured — and much denied — Fiat-Chrysler-Volkswagen merger being bandied about this past week very much depends on whether you believe the success of a corporation is the logical conclusion of capitalistic dynamics or the forceful vision of one charismatic leader. If you believe in the former, then you believe that the logistics will help buffer the giant against business cycles, that is if the ...
