Mazda Planning a 6 Coupe for 2017—An Honest-to-Goodness Two-Door Coupe!

Oct 29 2014 4:37pm CDT | Source: Car and Driver

Zounds! A coupe built on a family sedan platform with a mere two access portals? What is this? 1986? Not quite, but in 2016, according to a report in Auto Express, we could see a two-door coupe version of the Mazda 6 sedan. The fact that we have to specify that this potential 6 would be a two-door would undoubtedly confound our forefathers, but thanks to the efforts of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and the Volkswagen Group, a coupe taking the form of a four-door with a swoopy roof, ...

Oct 29 2014 4:03pm CDT | Source: Autoblog

Filed under: Minivan/Van, Japan, Videos, Toyota, Luxury A few months back we reported on a dealership owner in Japan who was petitioning Toyota to make a luxury van. The problem, he reasoned, was that he couldn't take as many friends, colleagues and clients around with him in his Lexus LS, and his Toyota Alphard van wasn't luxurious enough. Well, it seems like he wasn't alone, and T ...

Report: Why basing car recalls on geography is stupid

Oct 29 2014 8:38am CDT | Source: Autoblog

Filed under: Government/Legal, Recalls, Safety Geographic or regional recalls - the practice of recalling vehicles based on their geographic location - may seem to make sense. After all, why recall a corrosion-prone spare tire carrier (as Toyota did in 2010 and 2012) in areas where rust isn't a major factor, or humidity-prone airbags (as per the Takata case) in dry climates? But the latest analy ...

Toyota i-Road Electric City Car: Here's How It Leans

Oct 29 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Diesel Reports

As we caught last month in this demonstration at the Paris Auto Show, the i-Road is driven at the front wheels by twin 2-kW electric motors, and steered at the rear wheels, as the articulati ...

The New York Times reports that Doug Betts, Fiat-Chrysler quality chief, abruptly abandoned his post this morning. Rumormill: Does Scion's LA concept presage a US Auris?

Oct 28 2014 1:09pm CDT | Source: Autoblog

Filed under: Concept Cars, Wagon, Hatchback, Scion, Toyota When the doors open at the LA Auto Show in a few weeks, Scion will be on hand to showcase its new iM Concept. But considering what little Toyota's youthful brand has revealed about the concept so far, it's led to rampant speculation. And the prevailing wisdom seems to point towards a production iM arriving as a Scion-badged version of the Toyota Auris. For those unfamiliar, the Auris is to European (and other) markets essen ...
