Sports car maker Porsche has announced that its incredible hybrid 918 Spyder has crashed the lap record at the famous racetrack Nurburgring. The Porsche is able to make a lap and 6 min. and 57 seconds. A single lap of the track spans 20.6 km.
The 918 Spyder’s lap time shaved 14 seconds off the previous record. The record had stood for four years and was reportedly broken during the first attempt in the test drive on the morning of September 4. Porsche hired three professional drivers to break the record and all three were quicker than the previous record lap. The drivers included Former European Rally Champion Walter Rohrl, Porsche test driver Timo Kluck and Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb.
Porsche used a pair of 918 Spyder models and did under 7 min. repeatedly. The average speed was 179.5 km an hour. The fastest lap was put down by Marc Lieb at 6 min. and 57 seconds. Both cars used in the test had the optional Weissach package.
