'Grand Theft Auto V' Coming To PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Fall

Jun 10 2014, 10:32am CDT | by

Rockstar’s critically acclaimed open-world crime game, Grand Theft Auto V, is headed to new-gen systems and PC later this year the company announced at E3 Monday.

While this is hardly a surprise—rumors of its migration to higher-powered systems have been flowing steadily since before the game was even released—it’s still good news. As good as the game looked on PS3 and Xbox 360, it still felt constrained by last-gen hardware. And the many screenshots released to promote the game always looked just a little bit better than what we actually ended up playing.

Not that graphics make the game. GTAV is a great game because of its gameplay and characters, its witty dialogue and clever radio ads. Still, watching the above trailer (captured on a PS4) one can’t help but notice the difference.

Players will be able to transfer save data from their last-gen game, whether that’s on PS3 or Xbox 360, to their PS4, Xbox One, or PC version.

PC has something of an edge, however. That version will include an advanced video editor, “designed for advanced movie-making” according to Rockstar.

Grand Theft Auto Online will also come to new-gen systems and PC this Fall. No word yet on resolution and frames-per-second, but the PS4 trailer is running at 1080p.

Grand Theft Auto V is the best-selling video game in history. I suspect its new-gen release will only further cement its place as top dog—at least for now.

Take Two Interactive (TTWO) is up 3.5% on the news.
