The rumor mill is alive with the concept of the BMW M2 CSL again. Earlier in the year it was reported the car may be making a debut later in the future. The possibility consisted of a lightweight M2 CSL car. The same sources have now claimed the car may actually be revealed in 2016.
The fan base for the CSL variant sports car has always been strong. Fans have long been anticipating if a sports car version of CSL will even be released. The CSL model in the 1970’s was one of its most famous models ever.
The 70’s version only consisted of a 3.0 liter tank. Another BMW fan favorite is the E46 M3 CSL. The source has claimed BMW will be reinventing its CSL line of cars.
Many more CSL cars will be released in the coming future. The design of the new CSL cars will be inspired from the homage concepts. The new designs will give the CSL cars a new and fresh perspective.
The CSL cars will also be the platform to launch innovative features by BMW. The CSL line is being tested to enhance the performance of the BMW cars. It is safe to assume BMW will be using more lightweight materials for construction.
The lightweight materials will probably be the carbon fiber and composite plastics. Additionally the CSL cars may have new versions of the eDrive feature. Adrian van Hooydonk is the BMW Group Head of Design. According to Hooydonk, the new mantra performance through light weight is a top priority for them.
