BMW M1 to Make a Comeback in 2016?!

A $300,000 BMW supercar anyone?

An insider from BMW claiming to be familiar with the project says that the mid-engine M1 could make a comeback as a 2016 model. The car is expected to pack a 4.0-liter V8 engine with either eight or nine-speed dual-clutch transmission using start-stop technology with as much as 650 hp on tap. The car is also said to use carbon fiber, aluminum, and other lightweight materials to aim for a 2750 pound curb weight.

With a weight that low and so much power this would be a very impressive sports car indeed. MotorTrend expects the car would be able to reach a top speed of 205 mph and hit 62 mph in about 3 seconds. Sadly, the car is expected to cost about $300,000. This explains why the M version of the one series is called the 1M.
