Tesla plans to continue ramping production throughout the year

Tesla has announced that it has completed construction of the first 50 Model S electric vehicles from its production line in Fremont, California. The first 50 included 29 cars sold to customers and 21 vehicles for use in Tesla dealerships as loners and for test drives. Production started on June 22 and Tesla expects to build about 50 more cars in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Tesla has 12,200 Model S orders in hand and the vehicle started $57,400. "The ramp-up is continuing and we are getting a lot of invaluable information from having all these cars on the road," said George Blankenship, Tesla's vice president of sales. "We have already logged more than 39,000 miles on the first 50 cars."
