Oct 9 2014 10:25am CDT | Source:

Mazda's 28.1 mpg led all major automakers in average fuel economy for the 2013 model year, according to a new EPA report on industrywide fuel economy. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' 20.9 mpg, meanwhile, trailed the 11 automakers surveyed. The 148-page report notes that all major automakers except sixth-place Toyota and ninth-place Ford saw their averages increase between 2012 and 2013, and the industry's overall 24.1 mpg is the highest average since the EPA began ...

10 wagons we saw in Paris that we really want but can’t buy

Oct 6 2014 1:36pm CDT | Source: Driving Canada

If there’s one car body style that’s on the ropes in North America, it’s the wagon. Seems like folks see the Grisworld’s family truckster every time anybody comes out with a factory longroof, and that’s a real shame. Wagons provide most of the ride and handling of a normal family car, except with better cargo capacity than your average crossover. So, while the compact crossover is becoming ever more popular ...

Oct 6 2014 12:42pm CDT | Source: Driving Canada

Overview Popular compact SUV that’s more functional than fun Pros Solid, well built; cabin materials suitably upscale Cons Nothing special in the powertrain department Value for money Fair What would I change? Add a second engine; provide a sportier vibe How I would spec it? RAV4 AWD XLE There is little wrong with being sensible rather than playful — other than the fact the latter is easier to like. And the RAV4 is one of those vehicles that takes a while ...

When a scooter would be an upgrade

Oct 3 2014 4:52pm CDT | Source: Driving Canada

The Smart ForTwo and the Scion iQ are quite small but the 1984 Honda Zoe Zipper is ridiculous. I would be inclined to call it a scooter mobile. It was originally built in Japan by Mitsuoka Motors, the same company that converts the Nissan Micra into a miniature Jaguar MKII. Sort of like the car that Inspector Morse drove that transforms Mazda Miatas into Morgan look-alikes. The Zipper was licensed to Los Angeles-based Zoe Motors in 1983. The three-wheeled car uses ...
